By now you’ve probably heard that the New Oxford American Dictionary has selected “unfriend” as the word of the year. Other words in the running were “hashtag,” “intexticated” and “sexting.” Personally, I was hoping they would add the one word that has been on the tip of my tongue: “Robsessed.” Oh well, maybe next year.
What you may not know is that the New NAS American Dictionary has its own list of words and phrases that are coming into increasing use within the employment communications industry.
Applicant Trapping System: A cumbersome ATS that holds candidates hostage, forcing them to fill out page after page of forms in order to apply.
candidolt: An individual who continually applies for job that he/she is not qualified for.
de-recruit: The opposite of re-recruit; the pursuit of policies that actively push employees away from an organization.
employment bland: An employment brand that is boring, mundane, run-of-the-mill.
hellevator pitch: Insincere spiel designed to convince an applicant to join a company with a bad rep.
MiniMe-trics: a decidedly weak analytics/metrics strategy, with minimal measurement capabilities.
